We Are No Different than the Israel of Jeremiah’s Day

Israel had tried to domesticate God.  God may sometimes have “issues” with us, but the threat of his wrath was not even on the radar.  Jeremiah reminds us there were plenty of lying prophets around who told the people whatever they wanted to hear.  It was unthinkable that any harm should come to Jerusalem or the holy temple, and the false prophets lulled the people into false security by their upbeat message of health, wealth and happiness.
